BC Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame - 2018.

Since 3010 various persons from Vancouver Island
have been inductex including founding coach 
of Nanaimo's Newcastle Boxing Club.

Brian's Boxing Story.


Since 2010 a number of folks with Island connections have been inducted
Rick Brough, Eddie Haddad, Fred Desrosiers, Alan Brown, Mickey Griffin,
Gary Wood, Steve Wood, Jack Snaith area few of the inductees.


Mickey Griffin
is an inductee in the ju ior/youth category along wit Alan Brown.





Alan Brown has bern a member of three Island clubs
including Campbell Eiver Eagles, Gold River and Nanaimo Boxing Club
.Gary Wood is another former member of Campbell River Eagles and Nanaimo Boxing clubs.

Barry Creswell, 2015 BCABHoF nominee

* One of Barry's early important wins
took place in Victoria in the Seventies. In 2010,
Barry assisted in the staging of the BC Golden
Gloves, including providing the ring.

* Barry Creswell began his boxing journey
in the mid Seventies, and also was
involved in coaching. For well over ten
 years Barry has been the head coach
of the Nanaimo boxing club which was
founded in 1971 by Dan Wright and 
Brian Zelley.  Over the years there have
been various coaches and trainers 
including those that did not get
a lot of recognition for the success
such as Clarke McLellan and Joe Preston
in the Nanaimo media or on a provincial
level by Boxing BC.

Update: 2021, Barry has retired from boxing and the Nanaimo Boxing Club has four new coaches.  Barry has recently been nominated for the2022 Vancouver Island Boxing Hall of Fame.  *f selected, he will join five from year one 2021: Billy Townsend, Brian Zelley, Donnie Orr, Jason Heit &  Jeannine Garside,

the stage for a revival of the Greater Victoria Amateur Boxing
Association.

Boxing Volunteers Galore: 
* From 1989 onward, there would be a process of organizing through
a boxing committee established.  The original committee began
with four members, but in early 1990 the long process of organizing
would begin and a public meeting would be called to start the
process re-building the boxing community in Greater Victoria.

Amateur Boxing History of Greater Victoria - 1940 to 2013

Introduction:
Looking back from the forties to 2013, boxing in the capital
city of British Columbia, and the surrounding communities
such as Saanich, Langford, Colwood and other areas has a 
rich history which includes three Olympic boxers:
Eddie Haddad, Fred Desrosiers and Donnie Orr.

members of the Royal Canadian Navy, Queens's Own Rifles
and cadets at Royal Roads.

This blog will attempt to touch on the history, the names

They will include boxers such as those early Golden Gloves
boxers such as  Art Burgess AND Vic Murdoch
